Festival of Science European Researchers' Night 2018 - 2019 in Slovakia

Project description

Celebrating science success stories in Slovakia

Numerous researchers from across Slovakia have participated in the European Researchers’ Night since 2007. The 2017 events took place in five cities and featured the participation of more than 1 470 researchers and innovators. The overall aim of the EU-funded ERN18-19 SVK project is to promote interest in science and innovation. The festival programme will cover all scientific disciplines and every field of research in Slovakia. The focus will be on the two main themes: ‘Researchers in us’ for 2018 and ‘Try it! It’s SCIENCE’ in 2019. The highlight of all the events organised will be the opportunity for the public to meet real researchers and put a ‘human face’ to science.

In 2017 festival took place in 5 cities, the event featured more than 1.470 researchers and innovators and was attended by up to 155.000 visitors. The core element of the project success is the close communication and cooperation with R&I community. Festival programme gives enough space to all scientific disciplines and tries to cover every field of research in Slovakia. Increasing of young people attendance, namely pupils and students, is supported by creative activities and direct communication with researchers not only from academic community but also innovative companies.
The main objectives are to increase awareness of research and public recognition of researchers and their work by presenting latest outcomes and encourage young people to embark on research career and stimulate their interest in study of STEM disciplines.
The concept for ERN 2018-2019 will have the same focus, but with two different themes. The main theme of ERN 2018 in Slovakia is “Researchers in us” and for 2019 will be “Try it! It´s SCIENCE”. Active participation of researchers from different institutions focusing on various subjects of research will create great platform for showing young people how lively and impulsive could scientific career be. People will have an opportunity to spend all day visiting different presentations, stands, lectures and discussions, testing scientific applications, and getting in touch with real researchers. Thanks to these direct exchanges and discussions they can discover the ""human face"" of researchers and are more likely to remember their successes or stories."

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

CSA - Coordination and support action
