Project description
Technological solutions to sustainably produce energy and chemicals
With electricity from solar cells and wind turbines becoming more economically competitive, a major challenge is to find ways to store and transmit energy from such sources. Battery technology is a promising solution but has limitations. Chemical processes that convert water, CO2 and nitrogen into fuels and base chemicals are key to all sustainable energy and production systems. The EU-funded ENERGY-X project will develop technologies to sustainably produce synthetic fuels for energy storage and as feedstock for the chemical and materials industry. It will efficiently convert solar and wind energy into chemical form. Ultimately, the project should lead to the economically viable production of carbon-neutral fuels, chemicals and materials.
