Project description
Exploring Europe's, Africa's and the Caribbean's role in shaping the Atlantic World
The Caribbean has been characterised as a peculiar geopolitical region where economic, political, social, cultural and human contacts flow from Europe and Africa, from one island to another, and on to the American continent. These nexuses generated new ways of thinking and living, as well as identities. Europe played an important role in shaping this new world, as did the enslaved Africans that contributed to the cultural and ethnic formation of the Caribbean region and to global economic growth. The EU-funded ConnecCaribbean project aims to add to the academic dialogue between Europe and the Caribbean, focusing on new and different views and interpretations of the Atlantic World from those of the currently predominant Anglo-academics.
