Project description
Green algae cream formulation for wound healing
Wound healing is a complex dynamic process that involves many cell types and eventually leads to skin repair. However, the healing process in the elderly or in people suffering from diabetes or vascular diseases is not efficient and may lead to chronic wounds. To address the need for effective interventions in wound healing, the EU-funded PrasinoMed project has developed a novel cream that offers hydration and is hypoallergenic. The formulation is based on extracts from Prasinococcus capsulatus, a type of green algae that has been studied mainly for its potential to capture carbon dioxide as a bioremediation solution.
Objective
Skin is the largest organ in human body, providing protective physical barrier for muscles, bones ligaments and internal
organs. It is constantly exposed to physical, chemical and biological factors that cause damage by creating wounds.
However, the development of new and effective interventions in the wound-care market still remains an area of intense
research, as more than 100M people annually suffer from this problem. Modern wound-care products are not providing the
necessary level of hydration and due to un-natural substances in the formulation in some cases cause allergic reactions.
Prasinotech introduces a novel cream, Prasinomed, for the wound-care market. The cream is based on high quality nongenetically
modified, ecologically favourable biological production.
Due to formulation from naturally occurring microalgae-prasinococus capsulatus, Prasinomed offers sustainable, antiallergizing
and hydrating cream.
