Project description
Innovative water purification solution
Pollutants can reach tap water even after treatment, representing a threat to public health. Consumers who want to ensure clean water may opt between bottled water and home water purification devices. However, these are not suitable solutions as plastic bottles represent a significant environmental burden, and commercial purification machines are expensive and inefficient. The EU-funded MITTE project is developing an innovative solution that turns tap water into safe mineral water right at home. It combines a proprietary distillation method with a cartridge to replace the minerals lost during the process. The solution is cheaper and four times less energy-consuming than other home distillers; what is more, it removes all contaminants.
Objective
The called emerging pollutants are becoming a new health public problem as they are reaching our tap water even after the treatment. To solve this problem, the conscientious consumers opt for two options: (1) the consumption of bottled water or (2) the acquisition of home water purification machines. Bottled water is not a good solution since plastic bottles present an important environmental burden and can also release BPAs into the water. On the other hand, the commercial purification machines do not address the problem in an effective and complete way with methods consisting in a combination of several stages and lots of replacement parts, which makes them expensive and inefficient. Mitte is an innovative solution that enables the user to turn any tap water into safe and healthy mineral water right at home. The machine combines a propietary distillation method combined with a cartridge to remineralize the minerals lost during the process. In addition, Mitte has sensors in different points that are controlled through an app that allows to obtain information about the machine settings, check the status of the machine, get real time information about water quality, and also track the amount of water dispensed and the usage of the consumables, allowing for a smart demand driven replenishment of consumables . Mitte is a very competive product that uses 4 times less energy than other home distillers, remove the whole spectrum of contaminant, prove the user with healthy and safe remineralised water and is cheaper than other home purification systems. The water produced by mitte is cheap (0.10 €/L), provide a fast ROI for users of bottled mineral water and every liter of water proded reduce plastics waste, water waste and carbon dioxide emission in 30, 20 and 28 times less respectively.
