In the first reporting period, the definition of the NADIA scope and the interfaces to the test facility as well to the demonstrator was done.
For the simulation tasks, the appropriate software was selected and the 1D models were created.
The development of method for realistic calculation of volume flow distribution in the system started (standard process is to assume an ideal distribution) and acoustic regression equations of Restrictor in 1D simulation was incorporated.
Materials and production technologies were evaluated and the alternative air supply concepts were developed
The simualtions and evaluation of UV-disinfection was done unit done with the result to switch to a more efficient technologie like plasma.
In the second reporting period the DMU was detailed and the alternative air supply concept for the air outlets was implemented.
The mixing unit and the air outlet were simulated and optimized in terms of perfomance, noise and weight.
Critical Design Review was held and the detailed models were finalized to start manufacturing of the test parts for the demonstartor.
New FMU components were created and exchanged with the topic manager and a plasma air cleaning unit were purchased and tested.
In the third reporting period the parts for the demonstrator was produced and/ or purchased. All the parts were weighted and leakage tested and labeled. To verify the simulation of the riser duct and air outlets a flow and acoustic test was performed.
All parts including the brackets were packed and shipped to Leonardo for installation of the ECS. Because of the delay of the Demonstrator, the ECS couldn't be installed and tested within the project.
Diehl will nevertheless support the Installation of the parts at Leonardo and test the ECS as soon as the demonstrator is available at Fraunhofer IBP after project end with own budget.
Diehl was present at the EASN International Conference in Barcelona together with the Fraunhofer IBP with a lecture of "Coupling of a zonal air and temperature distribution model with an low pressure environmental control system ducting model".
A peer reviewed paper with the same title was also published.
Due to this project, new standards in the design and simulation of ECS parts were set at Diehl Aviation.
This allows faster development, integration and design, due to less engineering loops, and the best compromise between weight and cost.
