Securing Continuous Operations of Mission Critical IoT Endpoints

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - PdbU (Securing Continuous Operations of Mission Critical IoT Endpoints)

Período documentado: 2019-01-01 hasta 2019-04-30

The aim of the project was to ascertain the technical, commercial and financial viability of the PdbU device and also to determine the next actions to ensure that it reaches adequate maturity not only for a successful market entry but also for guaranteed industry competitiveness.
We determined which components of the complete version of the PdbU system architecture can be successfully incorporated into the current prototype within the scope of the Phase 2 project. We modelled the development process for incorporation of the components to define the technical roadmap and timeframe for project completion, which yielded a Work Plan (with six Work packages) and the associated budget.

We selected the most lucrative market verticals (video surveillance and emergency lighting) and regions for penetration, narrowing to our achievable serviceable market. We revised our IP strategy, considering further protectable results from the project and the best IP protection strategies to use. We have carried out a study on the applicable regulations as well as all required certifications. We performed a commercial and technological risk assessment and elaborated strategies to mitigate each risk.

A cost benefit analysis supports the implementation of the PdbU project. According to our business plan, during the first 5 years of commercialisation, we will achieve a ROI of 4.7.
Progress beyond state of the art - Our key differentiator from available products on the market is our integration of both physical and cyber security for IoT endpoints under one platform, which is a game-changer in the industry. Current systems have failed to merge the two protection levels, and this increases implementation and operational costs due to separate installations. We offer continuous operability and immunity from cyber-attacks at a price 350% less than that of competing systems, which further pushes our solution ahead of the state-of-the-art. Our use of Power over Ethernet (PoE) as opposed to AC power (for the legacy power systems) enhances our power efficiency.
Expected potential impact - High-energy efficiency through POE use eliminates >50% of energy wastages and reduces CO2 emissions. Continuous operation (Always On) of IoT endpoints, reducing disruptions in everyday life for IoT endpoint operators. Impregnable security features that will reduce cyber-attacks on IoT systems through endpoints, thereby increasing confidence & opening more IoT market opportunities.
