Industrialisation of curved sensors and related imagers

Project description

Paving the way for use of curved sensors

With digitalisation affecting most markets, the need for more reliable sensors is skyrocketing. Curved sensors and other related imagers can benefit multiple fields, both industrial and scientific. Unfortunately, current models are not cost-efficient and they are hard to mass-produce. The EU-funded CURVE-X project aims to pave the way for commonly used curved sensors that can be mass-produced. This will be accomplished by developing their prototype for better repeatability and easier industrialisation. The project also aims to validate their use as scientific instruments and for use in amateur and professional astronomy.

Objective

Pillar II of the ERC-STG-ICARUS aimed at paving the way to a common use of curved sensors for cost-effective imaging systems, through prototyping and recommendation for mass production. The next steps towards commercialisation and industrialisation are proposed in this PoC project to: improve the repeatability, prepare the industrialisation, realise market studies and outline a business plan. We create the start-up CURVE-ONE for the valorisation towards scientific instrumentation and amateur astronomy. The project has the positive support of potentiel clients and will be done with the help of CNRS-Innovation as a third party and the OPTITEC photonics competitiveness cluster to enhance the impact on industry.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Net EU contribution

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
