The next generation of cellular interconnections

The rapid increase of mobile networks worldwide has created new challenges. For instance, existing infrastructure requires advanced services associated with the change of the existing methodology of interconnection towards an all-IP ecosystem. Mobile network operators (MNOs) that monopolised services are now challenged by mobile network aggregators (MNAs) that are taking over the market. MNAs can multiplex clients across several MNOs to secure perfect service and sustained quality of experience. The EU-funded DICE project will design fluid interconnection models between the client, MNOs and the IP exchange providers. The project envisages elucidating the existing cellular interconnection ecosystem and will design innovative solutions to support next-generation IP interconnection models.
