EMBL Interdisciplinary Postdoc Programme 4

Description du projet

EIPOD4 is an international postdoctoral fellowship programme embedded in the world-class research environment of EMBL. It fosters interdisciplinary and intersectorial research opportunities between academia, industry, clinics and museums via three available tracks (Academic, Industry, Clinical). The programme will host 60 experienced researchers recruited in 3 globally advertised calls following a transparent and merit-based evaluation and selection process with international peer-review. Fellows receive 3-year employment contracts to complete their self-designed interdisciplinary research projects. They develop interdisciplinary research skills and complete a mandatory training portfolio targeting transferable skills.

A dedicated career development service and career secondment opportunities allow EIPOD4 fellows to further develop core competencies and enhance their networking skills. They are part of EMBL’s established Second Mentor programme and develop their own mentoring skills via the new EIPODs Inspire scheme where they support junior colleagues from less-represented countries.

The programme aims to educate future scientific leaders with a strong sense of their responsibility to society. An important aspect of this is to engage in dialogue with the general public. The project partner, the Natural History Museum in London, will provide fellows with science communication training. Fellows will also have the unique opportunity to participate in one of the museum’s high profile public engagement events.

EIPOD4 supports the increasing diversity of career paths in Europe’s research landscape. The programme will increase the visibility of the European Research Area as an attractive destination for experienced researchers to receive valuable and innovative training. As many of the globally recruited fellows stay in Europe following their postdoctoral fellowship they will contribute their skills to positioning Europe as a research and innovation leader.
