ERA Chair position in Materials Research in Extreme Environments

ERA Chair for the University of Tartu

The EU-funded MATTER project is working to establish an ERA Chair at the University of Tartu. The project aims to increase research excellence in advanced materials modelling, biomedical engineering and nanomanipulation, and promote the use of materials science in biomedical applications and nanomaterials. The project plans to also establish an international advisory board, define key long-term strategies, and form a collaboration network of science and education centres. MATTER will also promote entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary learning through coaching from the ERA Chair team. The project will facilitate collaborations with high-profile industry partners and increase the visibility of MATTER using conferences and workshops.

Objective

The overall objective of the MATTER project is to hire excellent researchers to facilitate structural changes in University of Tartu (UTARTU) by establishing an integrated ERA Chair in Materials Research in Extreme Environments (MATTER) to increase the research excellence in advanced materials modelling, biomedical engineering and nanomanipulation and exploitation of materials science in biomedical applications and nanomaterials.

For achieving the main objective, the following activities will be implemented:
• Recruitment of the ERA Chair (R3-R4 level), three established researchers (R3 level), engagement of 3 post docs, 3 ESRS and establishing collaboration with existing 8 research groups
Formation of International Advisory Board (IAB), implementation of 3 IAB workshops
• Defining the MATTER’s key long-term strategies – research strategy, knowledge and IP management strategy, exploitation and sustainability strategy
• Increasing research excellence by implementation of the scientific strategy by ERA Chair team and establishing and coordination of collaboration network of high level science and education centers: organization of 10 incoming and 14 outgoing visits
• Improving of Ph.D. curriculum by introducing innovation and technology management entrepreneurship module, mentoring and coaching of ESRs on entrepreneurial aspects by the ERA Chair and the team
• Increasing the opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and promoting entrepreneurship, through innovation and technology management entrepreneurship module, industry traineeships, mentoring and coaching by ERA Chair team
• Create high-profile industrial collaboration via: Implementation of at least 10 onsite and off-site demo and info-days 7 short-term exchange of senior researchers, 6 internships and industry co-supervision of ESRs
• Increase the visibility of the MATTER research excellence via: 3 high-level international conferences/workshops, 3 summer schools, posters/presentations/interve
