High performing microgranulated Biopesticides for plants protection

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - DISPERzero (High performing microgranulated Biopesticides for plants protection)

Período documentado: 2019-06-01 hasta 2019-09-30

To supply an increasing amount of food, the agriculture industry needs higher levels of output per unit of land area. A significant problem of this industry is that yield losses due to pests increases to 35% worldwide. Synthetic pesticides are extensively used in agriculture and can cause problems of bioaccumulation and for human health, such as skin and eye irritations, critical problems in the nervous system, fertility problems, or even cancer. That’s why the EU has been banning a wide range of products from the market. Biopesticides are the answer to problems derived from the use of synthetic based pesticides as they are less toxic than conventional pesticides and decompose quickly while production yields remain high. Indalva will make a commercial breakthrough by bringing to the market the first water soluble Biopesticides, combining all the environmental advantages of natural-based pesticides with the technical and cost-efficient features of solid presentation biopesticides (with no health impact on end-users due to the absence of powder and no clogging of applicators’ systems). The DISPERzero project’s main objective is to develop 2 new lines of water soluble “zero residue” products, insecticides and fungicides, produced under our innovative “Fluid Bed” technology.
With this feasibility study we have been able to verify the technical and economic viability of the DISPERzero project and we have decided to continue with our business idea. The next step will be to prepare a Phase 2 proposal in order to get the necessary funding for the industrial scale-up of our innovation. We have identified the necessary activities for the next phase 2 project as well as the required resources, and we have confirmed that these are feasible in a reasonable time frame of two years, allowing us to start commercializing our product by Q4 2021 / Q1 2022, according to the business plan defined in this document.
The use of DISPERzero have the following advantages compared with synthetic pesticides:
• They are usually inherently less toxic than conventional pesticides and compatible with other control agents.
• They generally affect only the target pest and closely related organisms, in contrast to broad spectrum, conventional pesticides that may affect organisms as different as birds, insects and mammals.
• When used as a component of Integrated Crop Management (ICM) programs, DISPERzero can greatly reduce the use of conventional pesticides, while crop yields remain high.
