Workshop: European Café Debate and presentation of initial findings from Sahel cases

This deliverable consists of the organisation and implementation of an informal caf debate or discussion forums with presentation of initial findings from Sahel cases to be held in the region with participation from the EUmember states governmental representatives and social and religious actors engaged in the prevention of violent extremism where applicable

Working paper on a comparison of ‘enabling environments' and drivers in the occurrence/non-occurrence of violent extremism in the Balkans and the broader MENA region

This deliverable will develop a regional comparison of the enabling environments and drivers of violent extremism in the Balkans and the MENA The work will centre on the root causes of conflict including local and regional cleavages and grievances focusing in particular on aspects of identity religion and politics As a result the enabling environments found in the various regions will be examined and decisive moments identified and the extent to which they have reached a tipping point leading to occurrence of violent extremism analysed

This deliverable will examine community resilience to violent extremism by studying and comparing cases of occurrence and nonoccurrence in the region thereby identifying factors that make some communities more likely to experience violent extremism while others remain relatively resilient

Repory from research meets people: Dialogue meetings with policy-makers, academic community and civil society, including religious groups and leaders in the Balkans and the MENA regions

In close collaboration with local partners this deliverable consists of the organisation and implementation of dialogue meetings that will play an important role in communicating our findings to key stakeholders involved in PVE

Policy brief to stakeholders with policy recommendations

This deliverable will develop concrete policy advice to the EU and key stakeholders on what lessons can be drawn and how its approach to preventing violent extremism can be improved

PREVEX will submit panels for academic conferences in present and test the interim research findings among the scientific community

Report from research meets policy: organise policy workshops; CEPS Ideas Lab, Munich Security Forum, Belgrade Security Forum, MERI annual conference

To maximise the projects impact PREVEX will organise a series of workshops and panels at relevant conferences to engage project experts with targeted policymakers practitioners researchers and a wider expert audience In addition international conferences will be organised to bring together project researchers and key stakeholders from the EU as well as from the Balkans and the MENA region to debate policy needs and outline recommendations

This deliverable will study what measures the EU has implemented and how this has been done, in order to identify best practice and lessons learnt in this field. It will also focus on how policy is implemented and followed-up, as well as the EU’s experiences in co-operating with member states.

This deliverable will map and analyse the toolbox of the EU, thereby providing a comprehensive overview of the existing measures aimed at preventing violent extremism in the Western Balkans and the MENA region. The decision-making processes, institutional set-up and practice at EU level will be studied, as well as how the EU is co-ordinating its activities in this field with measures undertaken by member states.
