Periodic Reporting for period 3 - NUADA (YOUR LIFE. HANDS-ON.)

178 Million people suffer from lack of strength, pain or tremor in the hand, just in EU and the USA. These problems have a very high negative impact in the quality of life of these people. They become limited in their ability to live their lives normally, requiring assistance for normal tasks, and becoming many times dependent on caretakers and health institutions.
With Nuada, the users can improve their hand function, allowing them to increase their ability to interact with the world, and adding independence and motivation.
During this project we’ve developed the technology associated with the Nuada product, increased knowledge of the technology and markets, pushed the state of the art in the exoskeleton field, and most importantly, proved the importance of our system in patient’s lives.
Nuada developed all of the company’s areas during this project.
The main results are:
- Increase in IP, and creation of new patentable technologies (1 granted patent and 9 developments that are possible to patent);
- Two pilots with 44 and 63 patients, proved the benefits of our system for multiple pathologies;
- Product development reached market readiness, enabling the company to start preparing production;
- Creation of partnerships and awareness to enable business development worldwide.
Nuada’s exoskeleton for the hand was already considered an addition to the state of the art. All of the developments made our product more compatible to the actual real use of users in real world scenarios. All of the iterations and improvements are therefore an addition to the state of the art.
Nuada is also helping increase awareness for the whole exoskeleton area, specially for the new category of quasi-passive exoskeletons.
Because the Nuada project is intended to be used for injury prevention and hand function improvement, the users will benefit directly either by retaining and protecting hand health, or recovering from hand lack of function.
People that suffer from hand limitations, such as lack of strength, pain and tremor in the hand should be empowered and protected.
Our project has direct impact on their abilities, decreasing dependency on health institutions and caretakers, with direct socio-economic benefits.
The actual calculation of the savings and benefits can only be done once our product reaches the market. The calculation precision will increase with the scale of the business development, as we expect variations between economically and socially diverse countries and continents.
