The clinical diagnosis and time course assessment of Parkinson’s disease (PD) are based on performing neurological examinations and simple motor tests. However, these only assess the PD patient’s health status limited to the duration of the testing, and thus fail to detect fluctuations in motor symptoms, which can vary considerably from one day to the next. In order to reduce this discrepancy, Biomedical Lab has developed the PD-Watch, which is a wearable device, configured as a wristwatch, for continuous and long-term monitoring of movement disorders. The value proposition of the PD-Watch is to provide a powerful tool and an innovative solution to identify the best possible treatment specific to each patient that will minimise PD movement disorders. The PD-Watch has an improved ability to discriminate neurological originating motor activity from daily regular patient actions and movements. The PD-Watch has already been tested during a preliminary clinical trial and is protected from an intellectual property standpoint.
The feasibility study aims to achieve an in-depth evaluation on the identification of appropriate approaches and elements for allowing a decision on the how to progress with a course of action.
Main work perfomed includes especially technical tests in order to define the device’s technical configuration, improvements in freedom to operate condition, better knowledge about competitors.
