Project description
New digital tool to fight audiovisual piracy
Good news for the entertainment industry, which is reeling from the unauthorised distribution of copyright protected content like music and films on the internet. There’s a new tool to fight against online piracy and counterfeiting. The EU-funded ETIQMEDIA project has developed a digital system that can search and find, count and sort the amount of times that images, faces (people), texts and voices appear in any media channel (such as TV, radio and the internet), at the same time and in real time. This new system can detect and pinpoint the location of the 'pirate'. It can also identify the intellectual property right that is being violated.
Objective
"Etiqmedia Soluciones Audiovisuales, S.L. is an ICT innovative high-tech startup created in 2016 and emerged from the one of the Spain’s leading engineering centers: Aragon Institute of Technology. We are specialized in developing platforms to process video and audio applying multimedia technology. As an acknowledgement for our business trajectory, we have won the “IDEA Innovative Award 2017"" for “Best Start-up” sponsored by Spanish Government, and we´ve received the Spanish Seal of Innovative Excellence in 2018 (NEOTEC: SNEO-20171032).
Counterfeit and pirated trade is a global and dynamic phenomenon that describes a range of illicit activities related to intellectual property rights (IPR) infringement such as: copyright, trademarks, design rights and patents. In 2013, international piracy trade represented up to 2.5% (USD 461 billion) of world trade. This is the equivalent of the GDP of Austria, or the combined GDP of Ireland and the Czech Republic. At this point, ETIQMEDIA has developed the best tool to fight against piracy (Business opportunity).
ETIQMEDIA has designed and developed the first digital system able to look for, count and sort the amount of times that images, faces(people), texts and voices appear in any media channel (such as TV, Radio and Internet) at the same time and in real time. Our innovative solution is able to locate who the “pirate” is and where is located in any part of the world, as well as to know what intellectual property right is being violated by the pirate. This solution has been validated in a study pilot.
ETIQMEDIA focusses on the cultural and creative market, which is composed by 700,000 cultural-oriented enterprises in EU. Target customers are MEDIA Operators, Public Administrations and Universities.
Expected Impact is additional employment of 25 jobs and increase of yearly profit margin of EUR 11.17mn until the fifth year of market introduction at EBITDA Return of Investment (ROI) of 6.
