Periodic Reporting for period 1 - KOMP Pro (KOMP Pro - The one-button screen connecting care providers and family with non-digital seniors through pictures, messages, video, apps and services.)
Période du rapport: 2020-01-01 au 2020-06-30
Loneliness in seniors is widespread and has serious health implications. At the same time, research demonstrate that ICT usage amongst seniors leads to a decline in perceived social isolation, depression
and overall well-being and health. However, as many as 15,6 million EU citizens, 75 years and over, are not online due to either physical barriers like visual impairment or lack of comfort with using technology. Therefore, we have developed KOMP, the one-button computer for seniors and the winner of Nesta's and AAL's Smart Ageing Prize, 2018. KOMP’s simplicity and user-friendliness ensure that the senior user does not have to expand on their technological skills.
In this project, we have explored KOMP Pro. KOMP Pro is a platform for care providers to manage and interact with the KOMP device. From the KOMP Pro platform, carers can manage KOMPs, send photos and messages, carry out video-calls, and also schedule medical appointments and reminders. Care providers using KOMP Pro can manage an unlimited number of KOMP devices, create groups of KOMP and assign different levels of access to team members.
Europe will experience a pressing lack of workforce to meet the senior wave. Care providers need ICT-solutions to simplify and streamline care that is simple enough for them and the senior citizens to actually use, enabling seniors to be part of the digital healthcare shift. KOMP Pro is a tool to make caring easier, whilst improving the quantity and quality of social contact between the patient and their family. Our calculations show that care providers can save as much as €78 900 per senior per year, provided the senior receives our solution and care in their home instead of moving to an institution."
