ACOSENSE: The first Acoustic online instrument for intelligent fluids analysis

Project description

Innovative tool for intelligent fluid analyses

The process manufacturing chain in the pulp, paper and chemistry industries require constant and real-time information for process optimisation. In addition, the industry is seeking methods to reduce costs, save energy, ameliorate its products, and offer environmental benefits. Acosense technology is specialised in intelligent fluid analyses, providing essential information for process improvements. The EU-funded ACOSENSE project is preparing the commercialisation of an advanced tool and software that can deliver analysis previously thought difficult to obtain. The hardware is attached on the outside of the process tube and uses acoustics to analyse complex fluids properties.

Objective

In the Pulp & Paper and Chemical industries it is crucial to continuously analyse various process parameters and provide this information to operators in real-time, to optimise their processes. However, existing monitoring systems fail to meet these needs, and currently the optimization of the process chain links to a high market potential which is remains untapped. ACOSENSE technology uniquely meets these needs. Our process monitoring system is installed on the outside of the process pipe and uses acoustics to analyse several fluids’ properties. Our technology digitises the process flow and enables continuous and real-time monitoring, in a truly non-invasive way. ACOSENSE enables the better transformation of wood chips to high quality fibers. This unlocks tremendous value for our customers who enjoy impressive cost savings, by optimising their production, saving energy, chemicals and raw materials. At the same time, our technology translates to huge environmental benefits, as more pulp is produced from the same area of forests. Our proprietary acoustic spectroscopy technology is the fruit of 7 years of R&D and is protected by 10 international patents. It is a game changing innovation in process control with infinite applications in every process industry. Currently, ACOSENSE is at TRL-7, with the performance of our equipment already tested in the processing lines of the biggest players of the Pulp&Paper industry. With a feasibility plan developed under a Ph1 grant, we now seek a Ph2 grant to launch into the market our ACOSENSE platform, carefully optimized to meet the requirements of our customers in the Pulp&Paper and Chemical industries. Commercialising our platform in Europe, Latin and South America, we will boost our sales, generating cumulative net profits of €32 million during 2022-2026. This cash-flow is vital to scale-up our business and create 19 new jobs in our company to meet market demand.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
