The Off-Road Mobile Machinery sector is responsible for nearly 15% of the total NOx emissions and is also accountable for roughly 100 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions annually, corresponding to 2% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the EU27. This has led to mounting pressure on off-road original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to improve fuel economy and efficiencies of the drive train and hydraulics. The axial piston pump is the core of the hydraulic system for many NRMM because they have the highest power density for mobility and actuating operations.
Our ultimate goal is to develop a series of ultra-efficient axial piston pumps -TPV2500- with a swash plate system that delivers radical fuel reductions making NRMM much cleaner while accelerating the NRMM market in the transition to a zero-emission technology establishing a cost-effective route to electrification.
1a.2 Work performed during the reporting period and main results achieved so far
We determined the optimisation criteria of the hydrostatic swash plate design and 11-piston cylinder barrel based on the feedback from customers’ trials. We detailed the technical requirements and feasibility of the next steps. We assessed the optimal method for effective integration of automotive control system in various diesel engine/hybrid electric engine configurations. We outlined the technical needs for the industrialisation of TPV 2500. We detailed assessment of the axial piston hydraulic pump market (size, growth, competition, trends…) to refine market potential for TPV2500. We conducted comprehensive patent search, IP protection strategy, FTO evaluation, risk evaluation. Finally, we prepared a business plan with commercialisation plan detailing route to market, market launch schedule, growth projection.
