Project description
Developing an active morphing winglet demonstrator
The European Airframe Integrated Technology Demonstrator (Airframe ITD) focusses on developing ecologically designed, high-performance, versatile and energy- and cost-efficient airframe technologies. The EU-funded AEROMO2 project aims to support this objective by developing an active morphing winglet demonstrator within the Airframe ITD. To achieve this, it will deliver the elements needed to industrialise morphing movable technologies. These elements include a comprehensive material behaviour characterisation and prediction method and a production method necessary to demonstrate the application of a novel pressurised cell actuation system. The project will contribute towards Europe’s goal to reduce CO2 emissions and noise levels produced by aircraft.
Objective
The framework of the project is to support the development of an active morphing winglet demonstrator within the Airframe ITD. The current project will deliver elements necessary for the future industrialisation of the technologies involved in morphing movables. These elements concern
(I)- a comprehensive material behaviour characterisation and prediction method, specific for the requirements coupled with this application, subsequently called ‘Part A’,
(II)- a production method necessary to demonstrate the application of a novel pressurised cell actuation system subsequently called ‘Part B’.
Both parts are complementary, though these will support two types of demontrators. The first part is meant to realise a large step towards qualification of the morphing technology on focussing on materials able to realise morphing defomation in an existing concept, while the second one focuses on a technology integrating all aspects related to morphing movables, around an innovative fluid based control system, named FAMoUS.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
