Theatre during the French Revolution and Empire
Theatre is a combination of literature and social collective expression, especially during important historical periods. The EU-funded Rev.E project will study two aspects of theatre in the period between the French Revolution and the end of the Imperial era (1789-1815). It will analyse institutional mechanisms controlling freedom of art and press. The project will create a missing calendar of the theatrical repertory in Paris during the Consulate (1799-1804). Valuable information such as press reviews or censors’ and police reports will be freely available on an online database combined with an interactive website. In addition, the project will explore under an interdisciplinary approach the relationship between theatre and its wider context.
