Objective
The objective of the project is to develop object reconstruction techniques focusing specifically on the creation of large mosaics of digitised aerial video for use in forestry.
This involves both the adaptation of reconstruction methods to objects typical of the application and their implementation on a high-performance system in order to keep the processing time within acceptable boundaries. The objective will be achieved through:
- The development of global object reconstruction methods for use with large amounts of video imagery. Practical applications using video imagery need hundreds or thousands of video frames.
- The parallelisation of the method and its implementation on a transputer-based parallel computer. Such computers are needed in order to process the input data in an acceptable time frame by reducing the computation time from a few weeks to some hours.
- Demonstration of the system by the creation of large mosaics of digitised aerial video images. This will show the practical use of the system by forestry companies and mapping agencies.
- The establishment of a sound basis for the future development of similar systems for other accurate environmental monitoring applications using, for example, airborne spectrometry data.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
