Project description

Radical engine technologies powering next-generation aircraft

Working towards radical engine architectures and new engine technologies to power the aircraft of the future, Clean Sky’s Engines Integrated Technology Demonstrator (ITD) activities aim to increase the fuel and energy efficiencies of engines and reduce environmental impact. This ambition means achieving more thrust while burning less fuel and emitting less CO2, NOx and noise, and it should be accomplished regardless of whether the engine is powering large airliners or small utility aircraft. The EU-funded GAM-2020-ENG project will contribute to the development of many engine architectures including the following: ultrahigh propulsive efficiency demonstrator addressing the short- and medium-range aircraft market, business aviation/short-range regional turboprop demonstrator, advanced geared engine configuration and very high bypass ratio large turbofan demonstrator.

Objective

The Engines ITD will work towards radical engine architectures and new engine technologies to power the aircraft of the future. The objective is to increase fuel and energy efficiency of the engine and reduce environmental impact, regardless of whether the engine is powering a large airliner or just a small utility aircraft, meaning more thrust while burning less fuel and emitting less CO2, NOx and noise.
