Footwear technical dictionary as a teaching tool adapted to the specific requirements of footwear industry

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The objective of the project is to create a multilingual dictionary for people working in the shoe trade to be able to develop their language skills and improve their technical performance in the jobs they take on. The development of this technical dictionary will mean that language barriers will be overcome, and different terms of the shoe trade can be expressed in different languages. The intention of this project is also to encourage self-training and continuing vocational training.

ACTIVITIES
Initially, the project intends to list and deal with all the relevant terms linked with the shoe trade and formulate them in a common language. The material defined in this way will be translated into the language of each partner, then assessed to build a dictionary. The final product will subsequently be included in a computer file which will be displayed as texts and pictures. A version will then also be created on CD-ROM. Brochures and advertisements will be distributed to promote the final product. During the last stage, small seminars will be organised to help workers in the shoe trade understand the operation of the integrated product.

PRODUCTS
- A technical dictionary on the shoe trade in English, Spanish, German, Dutch, French, Portuguese and Greek.
- A glossary in the different languages selected.
- A computerised version of the dictionary and the glossary.
- The creation of a CD-ROM version.
