Computer-based mathematics in the formation of European engineering technicians - Training materials for transnational use

Objective

OBJECTIVES
Engineering technicians in mechanical construction enterprises must have appropriate training in mathematics. The aims of the project are to analyse engineering companies' requirements in terms of mathematical competence and to compare training provisions in France, the UK and Sweden. It will then develop computer-based materials and distance training modules for training engineering technicians in mathematics.

ACTIVITIES
Initially, the project proposes to develop and evaluate training materials common to the three partner countries by determining the similarities and differences in existing mathematics training provisions. Then, transnational exchanges will be organised between companies, universities and training providers. Training provisions, including tools, techniques and assessment systems will then be disseminated among the participating companies via a computer network.

PRODUCTS
Training tools for use in the initial training of engineers will be created. They will constitute a supplement to existing systems and will add a European dimension to training. These training tools will be computerised to facilitate their dissemination through TEC (Training and Enterprise Council) networks in the UK. The project will also produce various collected papers on engineering training.
