Project description
New framework to boost the performance of agri-food systems
From production to consumption and waste, the agri-food system significantly impacts the environment as well as our health and food safety. The Catholic University of Portugal aims to gain a deeper understanding of how to achieve sustainable and resilient agri-food systems. Along these lines, the University will become a centre of excellence in the use of sensors, multiomics and plant phenotyping technologies. The EU-funded STARGATE project will ensure this by focussing on the environment and its resources, food and nutrition, and biobased/biomedical products. It will develop a framework for measuring the impact of genetic resources and biodiversity in order to increase resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, reduce the use of fertilisers/herbicides, improve the nutritional value of crops and extend shelf life.
