European Researchers' Night Israel 2020

Project description

European Researchers’ Night in Israel

Israel’s Ministry of Science and Technology has been successfully hosting European Researchers’ Night events for the past 14 years, acquainting the public with the work of local researchers. The EU-funded ERNI2020 project will organise this year’s events in Israel, carrying out a series of activities all over the country with the aim of increasing understanding around research and innovation. The project will bring together scientists and the public, promote the impact of researchers' work on everyday life and encourage young people to embark on research careers. European Researchers' Night Israel 2020 will be carried out by a consortium consisting of major research universities, leading research institutions, education colleges and science museums and will be coordinated by the National Museum of Science.

Objective

With successive 14 years of successful NIGHTs, support (in time, efforts and funds) from the Israel Ministry of Science and Technology, more than 55,000 visitors a year, one Guinness World Record, 14 venues countrywide from Kiryat-Shmona in the very north to Eilat in the very south and a national TV, national radio and major newspapers coverage, our strong consortium, which consists of 13 major institutions in the Israeli academic community, is committed to European Researchers' Night success. All of the partners which will take part and operate 2020 European Researchers' Night event already have the experience and took part in previous European Researchers' Night events. Our consortium consists of the major research universities in Israel (including the Hebrew University and the Weizmann institute), leading research institutions, education collages and major science museums (including the National Museum of Science which will also coordinate the project for the 10th times in a row). Each partner in the project will invest its own funds (as always in ERNI since 2005) which also helps ensure partners' commitment for project success. Partners will also run activities with researchers outside of campuses. Researchers will visit local cafés, pubs and community centers to meet the public close to their homes. We find it very important to reach those who are not usually visiting university campuses and museums to increase the number of people having the opportunity to enjoy face-to-face meetings with researchers. This type of action had proved itself as very successful for tightening yearlong cooperation between researchers and the community which is a direct accumulative result of the European Researchers' Night project we are very proud of. The Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) will fully fund our national awareness campaign as part of its commitment to the project. MOST involvement will ensure a massive national coverage for the awareness part

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
