Project description
Showcasing the best of H2020 research
Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU research and innovation programme ever with nearly EUR 80 billion of funding available over seven years (2014–2020). The EU-funded ReConNeCt Upgrade 20 project will showcase the remarkable researchers heading projects funded by the EU’s H2020. Its goal will be to enhance public recognition of the researchers who are paving the way for the next Horizon Europe funding programme. Overall, the project will promote research careers among students. It will also focus on the links between science, industry and citizens. In a well-organised and logically connected sequence, the ReConNeCt Upgrade 20 project will focus on the digital science, including inspiring examples of the application of digital technologies in research and education.
Objective
Knowing that the EU H2020 funds only the best research and innovation projects which generate knowledge for the benefit of society, the Reconnect Upgrade 20.20 project has the ultimate goal to identify, and enhance the public recognition of those remarkable researchers, who are charged with leading the societal progress towards Horizon Europe, and stimulate promotion of research careers among the young pupils and students who will take over in the coming EU framework programmes. Reconnect Upgrade 20.20 project reflects Europe in a changing world which is asked to generate science that is smart, transformational, anticipating, co-creational, and more responsive to stakeholders’ engagement. Researchers need to rise to the societal challenges framed in Sustainable Development Goals and referred to in Towards A Sustainable Europe By 2030, while the general public needs recognize their added value in translating the EU funding for science and education into sustainable solutions that impact the daily life. Since the new EU framework programme for research and innovation is just around the corner, Reconnect Upgrade 20.20 project focuses on this transitional phase and sheds a light on the triangle among the science, industry and citizens, which is well reflected in the EU RIS3 Smart Specialisation Strategies that should bring in a demand-driven dimension, foster innovation partnerships emphasizing greater co-ordination between different societal stakeholders, and align resources and strategies between private and public actors.
