Objetivo

The demands made on employees in the clerical transaction departments of banks (the so-called "back offices"), particularly in the areas of international payment transactions, monetary and foreign exchange dealings and international securities, are increasing all the time. However, it is often the case that those employees working in these areas (including a large number of women) tend not to be very well qualified, as they were previously engaged mainly in performing routine activities. The aim of this project is, therefore, to increase the level of qualifications of back-office staff. However, those employees working in the customer departments also require an ever-increasing amount of knowledge about other bank business in order to be able to advise customers efficiently. This objective is to be achieved through the use of a computer game and computer-aided simulations for the back-office area developed and produced within the context of this project. Also planned are accompanying documentation and possibilities for using distance-learning materials (e.g. via the Internet).

Producing this material at transnational level ensures that the greatest possible number of types of work arising in "back offices" will be covered. The game medium provides an important non-intimidating means of access to learning for the target group concerned. The simulations can take account of differing degrees of difficulty and requirements - e.g. of a temporal nature. The possible use of a trainer ensures, where necessary, any explanation and consolidation that may be required. The banks will thus have a very flexible, realistic and reasonably priced training package at their disposal which can make employees better qualified by providing them very quickly with the knowledge and skills required.

Impact
To give employees working in the clerical departments of banks the possibility to engage in self-study or distance-learning, the project is developing a computer game and computer-aided simulations for the back-office banking sector as well as accompanying documentation.
