Skills identification and validation

Objective

This project forms part of a general trend towards recognising and validating skills acquired through professional experience. The proposed co-operation between CAFOC in Nantes and AGEFOS-PME in the Loire Valley Region, the College of Technology in Wigan and the Industrial Association of Oporto will make it possible to improve existing skills recognition/validation systems for French and British employees. It will also set up trials in several Portuguese companies for the purposes of defining proposals for a national certification authority. The agreed project structure will comprise several phases:
- a comparative study of skills identification and validation systems leading to trainer-training on the most innovative methods;
- joint design of the required training and information processes/tools prior and simultaneous to the validation procedures;
- training of professionals capable of setting up recognition and validation systems;
- validation trials in companies located in three different countries.

A guide on designing a skills identification/validation system for European companies and training modules for internal and external facilitators will be distributed to employees and companies through professional organisations, examining institutions and local or regional authorities.

Impact
This project will promote the use of identification/validation systems for skills gained through professional experience.
