Objective
The aim of this survey and analysis project is to establish the way in which university/enterprise collaboration can promote the development of intelligent regions. It will do this by carrying out research across three peripheral regions and developing a model of best practice that will serve policy development within peripheral regions. More specifically, the partners will investigate :
-the influence of region/local partnerships on university involvement in regional development;
-the needs of enterprises vis-à-vis telematic delivery potential. Training/learning, and R&D, and how the university can best meet these needs through telematic based servicing;
-the barriers within the university to developing such a collaboration, the degree of compatibility between regional labour market and enterprise needs and the work of the university;
-the best means of developing trans-regional university/enterprise based learning across European peripheral regions.
The final report will indicate what should be done to prepare the university for its envisaged role, and will show how vocational training within life-long learning is transformed into a continuous learning process that relates to regional labour market needs. It could also lead to the establishment of a coherent network of peripheral universities which could promote regional development within a focus of university/enterprise collaboration.
Impact
The results of the project will serve as the basis for policy development within individual regions as well as across the European periphery.
