Success dissemination and promotion in the mobile domain

Objetivo

Main Objective

The main objectives of this project are the dissemination of the results of the ACTS Mobile Domain, and the promotion of the benefits of research into advanced communications.

Technical Approach

This is to be achieved by the production and promotion of a two-volume book set with companion CD-ROMs covering the whole scope of the ACTS Mobile Domain activities. A variety of supporting dissemination and marketing material will also be produced targeting broader constituencies (e.g. public at large, politicians, governments, parliamentarians).
The outputs of this project, because of their varied forms of media, will enable them to be used in conjunction with and in support of special actions for dissemination and exploitation of results. Such actions may include, but are not necessarily limited to, workshops, international conferences, public demonstrations and exhibitions.
The combination of books and CD-ROMS, which enable the results to be enhanced with video/audio footage and animations, will be supported with a WWW site dedicated to the promotion of the ACTS Mobile Domain results and achievements. The WWW site will enable access by a broader international audience and will certainly contribute to the promotion of the books. It will also constitute a "permanent" repository of the knowledge generated by the Programme.

Planned Publications

The books, each volume consisting of 500-600 pages, will contain project overviews and summaries of their most important research contributions, edited into a coherent and impressive survey. The companion CD-ROMs will contain more complete repositories of the research results (including detailed results of demonstrations/trials). The first volume will be published end 1999/early 2000, the second end 2000/early 2001, covering all projects, including those resulting from the Third Call for proposals.
Expected Impact

The ACTS Mobile Domain is the largest grouping of research projects in Europe (and even in the world) in the area of Mobile and Personal Communications. It is therefore vitally important that the ACTS Mobile Domain results are promoted and made available to as wide an audience as possible. The more widely they are known, the more those success stories will be built upon - leading to new business and R&D opportunities in communications, faster deployment of technologies and services, and the consolidation of the internal market. The deployment of new mobile communications technologies and services will enhance European industrial competitiveness in general, by allowing improved efficiency and competitive advantage.

Main contributions to the programme objectives:
Main deliverables
Dissemination of the achievements of the projects in the Mobile Domain through the publication of a set of books and multimedia CD-ROMS.
Contribution to the programme
Dissemination of results of the ACTS programme. Support to the Mobile Domain activities.
Key Issues

By building upon public information provided by the ACTS Mobile Domain projects, namely their Final Reports and their Dissemination Deliverables, a wealth of information will be collected, structured and then made available to the world in general, first through the book plus CD-ROM sets and also through the project WWW site.
This repository of information will be maintained well beyond the ACTS Programme itself: ACTS Mobile Domain results will be accessible via WWW well into 2001, and then will be permanently recorded in CD-ROM.

Programa(s)
