SAFETY AND QUALITY OF FOOD CONTACT PACKAGING MATERIALS : FROM CONVENTIONAL TO RECYCLED AND RE-USED PLASTICS

Objective

The objective of the project is to improve the safety assessment of plastic materials intended for food packaging on the basis of the EC directives on food contact materials.

The philosophy is to replace the difficult determination of the contaminants in food by new approaches:

- a simple determination of the contaminants in the packaging material;
- the introduction of a correlation parameter binding the composition of the material to the highest possible contamination of food;
- new materials and recycled plastics will be tested for mutagenic activity and cancerogenicity in addition to the above approaches.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
