Objective
This integrated, multi-discipline project is aimed at improving the quality of MA packed fruit and vegetables. The interaction between respiration of the vegetables and fruit and the packaging materials will be studied, practically and by modelling.
The individual processes, diffusion of gases through the vegetable matter, through the packaging material, respiration rates of the vegetables and fruit under different MA conditions will be studied under varying temperature conditions.
The results will be used to design packaging and atmospheres which will improve sensoric value, storage stability of the product and will encourage the use of environmentally friendly plastic materials.
