ENCEPHALOMYOCARDITIS VIRUS (EMCV) INFECTIONS IN SWINE : PATHOGENICITY STUDY, MOLECULAR AND ANTIGENIC TYPING OF EUROPEAN VIRAL STRAINS AND IMPROVEMENT OF DIAGNOSIS

Objective

The objective is:

To increase knowledge on EMC and improving diagnosis in order to differentiate between EMCV and FMD so that in case of epidemics unnecessary restrictions in animal trade can be avoided.

Specific objectives are:

- To evaluate the pathogenicity and virulence of European EMCV strains for young pigs and pregnant sows by experimental infections.
- To define the possible spread of EMC within and between herds.
- The molecular and antigenetic caracterisation of EMCV strains.
- To improve diagnostic tests by the development of new reliable and safe laboratory assays.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
