IMPROVING THE IMPACT OF PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS OF LAGGING RURAL AND COASTAL REGIONS

Objective

The objective of this study is to raise the cost-effectiveness of economic policies in lagging and coastal rural areas by evaluating previous policies and establishing systems to stop socio-economic desertification. This will be achieved by:

a) describing extent and causes of desertification and creating typologies,
b) measuring local and regional cost-effectiveness of past policies for job creation,
c) providing guidelines for the most effective targeting and delivery of policies for economic diversification, and
d) forecast impact of future policies by creating a prototype expert system for the interactive management of development policies.
