THERMAL AGRO-INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH APPLICATIONS - A PYROLYSIS NETWORK TO REVIEW THERMAL PROCESSING OF AGRICULTURAL MATERIALS FOR PRODUCTION OF CHEMICALS AND FUELS

Objective

- to establish a European network of active technology researchers and developers of biomass pyrolysis processes and related technologies;

- to establish a forum for the discussion and exchange of information on new scientific and technological developments on biomass pyrolysis and related technologies between national programmes within the EU and beyond; international programmes such as the IEA Bioenergy Agreement, FAO and UN etc., EC sponsored researchers and private companies and individuals;

- to review progress in technical areas of particular importance, identify significant obstacles to their implementation and produce authoritative reports for distribution,

- to encourage and provide for interaction by exchange of personnel, information and ideas between laboratories and with industry to improve the rate of development and knowledge base of relevant technologies,

- to encourage the active involvement of industry in development and exploitation of the R&D being undertaken,

- to establish a database of relevant activities for information dissemination and improved cooperation,

- to disseminate information on individual activities from the database and results of meetings and common research activities by newsletter, reports and other publications, to those in the network and other interested parties in regional, national and international programmes.
The network will produce the following:

- a newsletter on current activities,

- a database of recent and current relevant activities,

- authoritative reviews of selected areas,

- meetings, forums and seminars,

- identification of opportunities for development and exploitation of ongoing R&D.

The PyNE newsletter is published by the Energy Research Group, Aston University, UK.
The network will be arranged into the following provisional specialist groups under a convenor :

- Fast pyrolysis technologies for production of liquids,

- Analysis and characterisation of bio-oil,

- Liquid quality improvement,

- Production and recovery of chemicals,

- Utilisation of bio-oil for electricity and heat,

- System design and development

Each group will review the state of the art in its subject area, examine opportunities for development and identify obstacles for implementation. Additional or replacement topics may be added later. Each topic will be covered by status reports, establishment of a database, active evaluation of developments and R&D needs, and identification of opportunities and obstacles for industrial development and implementation.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
