PROJECT TO ENHANCE THE EUROPEAN EEL FISHERY AND TO ENSURE SURVIVAL OF THE SPECIES

Objective

The Objectives of this project are:

1. Assembly of data bank on guantities of elvers, yellow eels and silver eels captured in participating countries together with an assessment of their subsequent fate (direct consumption aquaculture stocking) and evaluation of the data bank.
2. Assembly of published information - including 'grey' material - on the biology of all life stages and analysis of biological data in connection with catch and distribution data from 1.
3. Review of all data available on catchment-scale studies, dealing with eel habitat requirements.
