Objective
Losses of nitrogen fertilizers by nitrate leaching, denitrification and ammonia volailization have long been concern to soil scientists. Ammonium thiosulphate (ATS), (NH4) 2S2O3, as a common nitrogen-sulphur fertilizer, is rapidly transformed to plant available sulphates and therefore effectively alleviates sulphur deficiency in crops. It has also been shown that the use of ATS can reduce nitrification and inhibit urease activity in soils. Therefore, apart its use as a nutrient carrier, it may have agronomic value in reducing NH3 volatilization and NO3 leaching.
The aim of the project is to elucidate the advantages related with the use of ATS applied in addition to solid and liquid fertilizers and to slurries.
