Objective
The objectives are to collect, evaluate and disseminate knowledge about the efficiency of cover crops to reduce nitrate leaching and identify the conditions that make cover crops a reliable tool for the protection of ground water reserves.
The identification of gaps in our knowledge will specify aspects that need more attention in future experiments. These experiments should be set up in such a way that they allow:
- a proper evaluation of the merits of cover crops (i.e. the protection of groundwater);
- an easy comparison of results obtained at different locations;
- the utilisation of datasets for model calibration and validation.
Therefore, experiments should be carried out in an uniform way in terms of observations and, to a limited extend, treatments.
