REED CANARY GRASS ( PHALARIS ARUNDINACEAE). DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW CROP PRODUCTION SYSTEM BASED ON DELAYED HARVESTING AND A SYSTEM FOR ITS COMBINED PROCESSING TO CHEMICAL PULP AND BIOFUEL POWDER

Objective

This work is concentrated to evaluate the potential for a new industrial crop, reed canary grass (rcg). A new production system the delayed harvesting method, will be tested in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, UK and Ireland by 8 of the participants.

New technique for the intermediate production of high quality raw material for chemical pulping and powder combustion will be evaluated for rcg by one of the participants.

The possibilities to overcome process disturbing factors in the grass in chemical pulping process as silica and high content of fines will be analyzed by 2 of the participants.

The possibilities to upgrade the fuel will be evaluated by 2 of the participants.

Technical and economical analysis of the whole chain from field via intermediate processing to pulp, paper and energy will be performed by 4 of the participants.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
