MECHANISM OF RADIATION-INDUCED LEUKOMOGENESIS AND OSTEOSARCOMA- GENESIS

Objectif

Activation mechanisms in tumour cells were investigated by looking at receptors for neurotrasmitters and hormones coupled to adenylate cyclase. Lymphomas (induced by radiation or by RadLV) expressed at least one such receptor, either beta adrenergic or vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) -ergic. Receptors for VIP are remarkable since they are of the helodermin preferring type.
In conclusion, our cellular and biochemical studies have documented the production of insulin like growth factor (IGF) 2 by radiation induced lymphomas. Interleukin (IL) 1, IL-6, or IL-2 do not play a critical role in lymphomagenesis. Lymphoma cells express receptors for hormones or neurotransmitters coupled to adelnyate cyclase.
