Exploitable results Development and set up of transparent and high barrier coating on flexible packaging GALILEO, equipment supplier with existing know-how in barrier coating deposited on plastic films, teamed up with an electron beam technology supplier and a leading end user OTTO NIELSEN, to develop and optimize a coating process/machinery which would demonstrate better environmental performance than the current technology of metal vapour vacuum deposition. The initial belief was that the environmental load of aluminium metallization and polyvinylidene coating would be such that alternative routes would need to be proposed.
