Objective
The proposed project is directed at developing an wireless LAN communication system for the underground mining industry. The system will be an innovative approach to wireless voice and data communication from the main drifts and the stooping area. The system will include:
- A contactless fieldbus LAN communication system using radiating cables, fibre optics, and RF interfaces.
- A localization system for the underground working personnel and for the mobile equipment.
- A demonstrated prototype that will include a RF fixed station, mobile terminals, RF interfaces and LAN software.
With the realization of such a system, it is expected to have productivity gains in the order of 5-15%. In addition the proposed system will assure highly safety conditions for the underground working personnel and will contribute towards en improved deposits exploitation policy.
