NEW INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS FOR QUARTZ DEPOSITS INDIGENOUS TO THE COMMUNITY

Objective

The Northern Greece mainland hosts numerous quartz vein deposits of extra quality with low impurities content. These very clean quartz sources can be used as raw materials in plasma smelting technology for the production of silicon metal and ferrosilicon with low impurities content. Plasma technology opens the possibility of lowering both operating and cjapital costs by using fine grade ores and producing ultra pure silicon.

The working plan consist of the following five main tasks :

a. Exploration and evaluation of the most promising quartz vein deposits in Northern Greece.

b. Selection of the mineral processing method in order to obtain high quality grades of quartz.

c. Production of silicon metal and ferrosilicon with low impurities content by plasma smelting.

d. Production of ultra pure silicon for high technological applications.

e. Technical and economical evaluation of the results.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
