Exploitable results

The AUTOGRAVURE BRITE project has contributed a relevant effort in the evaluation of the rotogravure printing process including all the preparation and cylinder' s engraving steps. The project has proceed to analyse and evaluate the interrelation of all the process variables in order to build a software package, based in JAVA and SQL, which enables the operator to control all the process workflow and learn with its usage. The objective is the achievement of a sustained quality level in the final results and in repeated orders. This "expert learning system" will serve as a production planner with order requirements, process variables and CAD information as inputs and CAM and CIM outputs for the integrated Rotogravure printing process A second contribution of the project has been the development and proposal of a colour standard and procedure's system for the management of as a clear variable, in spite of all the final drivers and hardware that are utilised in the printing process. In this way it will be possible to utilise preliminary colour proofs, which will achieve the same quality and colour patterns as the final order requested by the customer. This standardisation of the photography image digitising in the scanning preparation phases will allow the determination and maintenance of colour quality levels. A relevant output will be the development of high quality level pre-production proofing processes, which in the end will make unnecessary actual printing proofing processes. Electronic communication of quality proofs with customers is also feasible with these standards, as the project has demonstrated. Thus the project benefits the rotogravure printing industry, and especially the SMEs involved in the industry by allowing clear results and quality levels.
