Objective
This network is composed of several European Institutions with expertise in the field of Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) technology. The project aims to enhance the communication of research results and to promote the exchange of knowledge, expertise, samples, measurement techniques and software codes between the participants. The different partners have different but complementary areas of expertise in the field of SOI (circuit design, CAD database generation, device processing, materials, device and circuit characterization). The exchange of samples, databases and characterization techniques benefits all members by extending the available resources to all of them.
A complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) silicon on insulator (SOI) cell library has been developed and a circuit, (a motor controller, 4500 transistors), based upon this library has been fabricated. Theoretical studies, fabrication and characterization of 2-dimensional and 1-dimensional SOI transistors (quantum effect devices) have been carried out. Fabrication and testing of high temperatures SOI circuits and magnetic sensors have been carried out. Samples and software codes have been exchanged; mutual visits of scientists to develop measurement techniques have taken place.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
