Objective
The method developed in FORTUNA supports tender calculation and process planning in one-of-a-kind production. The FORTUNA method and the implementation of the software system are suitable to increase the precision of tender price determination and to reduce the planning effort in the order processing. Pre-condition for this task is a company specific product structure which meets the requirements of the different departments (tender calculation, design, process planning and post-calculation).
By means of these models products, components, single parts, functional groups and units as well as fundamental parts are represented in a specific form. The core is formed by the product and the different views on the product including the functional properties. Consequently the representation of different product structures, eg the function oriented and the production oriented view on the product structure, and their connection by means of common elements is made possible. Moreover, further properties including, for example, geometry descriptions or planning features (manufacturing processes) can be assigned to the product.
Similar products, components, single parts etc. can be put together in classes and properties can be assigned to them. This classification is a pre-condition for the use of pattern matching which can be carried out on each hierarchical level. On the tool level in an injection moulding tool, for example, the classes tool type, injection material and number of cavities can be established. Due to the relations of the classes to the specific products, components, single parts etc. there is a direct connection between the classification and the design structure.
When assigning resources to the production planning resources can be selected from a table or a list. Resources can be connected to a process in such a way that specific resources depending on the order can be planned like a product. This is of great importance in the special tooling industry because the resources, especially the electrodes for spark erosion, have strong influence on the determination of costs and due date. Especially with regard to the manufacturing control the connection 'electrode must be ready before starting erosion' is essential.
During the introduction phase of the software in the companies the input effort will be high because each tender is similar to a new planning. This is made easier by using the system first as a generic process planning system to get a suitable database. As well it is reasonable to define complex products which include all possible functional groups of a product type with their different specifications. The input effort is reduced to the same extent as the pattern matching of already finished functional groups can be used. The acceptance and efficiency can be improved even more by integrating a shop-floor-data-collection (SFDC) concept.
