Objective
Steering is becoming one of the most important function for off road vehicles (agriculture, civil works, handling) equipped with hydrostatic steering gears. It is required today better performances of security and comfort when on-road speed will increase up to 60 km.
The vehicles are not designed like automotive products neither in engineering nor in quantity and the automotive solutions cannot apply. For these reasons the project proposes to design a new electronically controlled hydraulic steering mechanism which apply a resisting torque function of the speed to offer the driver a continuous feeling of driving. Thus the system could be composed of sensors which, in conjunction with an electronic device, will operate a new hydraulic electrovalve system, to be developed. Then the pressure level in the control unit's reaction chamber would vary and modify the resisting torque imposed upon the steering wheel by the speed and angle of lock.
The main research tasks are :
- establish the law of steering of vehicles without suspension,
- develop new components as the hydraulic reaction chamber,
- master the failures modes.
