Objective
The process for the design and production of moulds parts for bended woodpieces is handicraft based. The inaccuracy of this method leads to a test-and-error process which takes about 20 to 30 days, consuming about 1,5 to 2 man-months. The market demand is changing to a smaller parts series which makes the design and producing costs unacceptable.
Once the mould parts have been produced, they are used for production purposes, where some pressure problems ae detected caused by the inaccuracy designing method and by the lack in the glue selection and application process, depending on the manufacturing method. These problems lead to poor quality in the produced parts, which are under the market quality requirements.
The projects aims are first, to improve the design and manufacturing method for the mould parts, by the use of 3D digitizing and CAD/CAM techniques. This will produce a more accurate and reliable method, completely avoiding any back tracking. Second, to obtain better parts, by defining best gluing methods depending on the manufacturing processes, and applying a uniform distribution of the pressure applied on the manufactured piece, by the design of better mould parts.
